DEACONS  - It is required of Deacons that…  

...they be committed to the Lordship of Christ in their own lives, in the life of the church and in the life of the world.

.…they place their trust in Jesus Christ, fully God and fully human, the complete and full revelation of God, by whose life, death, burial, resurrection and ascension there is forgiveness of sin and reconciliation with God; who by the Holy Spirit dwells in us and we in him and who graciously shares with us his communion with the Father.

…they acknowledge the Bible to be the unique and authoritative witness to Jesus Christ, who is the living Word, and the only rule for faith and Christian living.

…they be committed to upholding the confession standards of the church, the Reformed theological posture, and the Presbyterian form of church polity.

…they show in their lives the compassion of Christ and the gifts for reaching out to all those in spiritual or material need, regardless of race, worldly condition, or ethnic background, and leading the congregation in meeting those needs.

…they show in their lives dedication to the work and worship of the church, leading and participating in all that supports its life in the Gospel.

Firelands Presbyterian Church has three ministry groups for Deacons and they are as follows:

Hospitality, which provides a welcome for visitors and guests, and fellowship activities for the congregation.

Outreach, which provides for the material needs of persons and families both outside and within the congregation.

Pastoral, which engage in care giver/care receiver relationships with persons in crisis or transition primarily with the congregation. The pastoral deacons are required to take 50 hours of Stephen Ministry training.
